Journal: A Playlist for February ’19

“Journal” is a playlist comprised of smooth, easy listening songs that nourish the soul. I find myself listening to these songs while I write, but you may find them useful for back road cruises, bubble baths or just hitting the reset button and winding down. Whatever mood you fancy them for, I hope you find joy and peace in these tunes.

1. In My Life – The Beatles

“There are places I’ll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I’ve loved them all”

2. And I Love You So – Elvis Presley

“The book of life is brief
Once the page is read
All but love is dead
This is my belief”

3. ’39 – Queen

“Don’t you hear my call though you’re many years away
Don’t you hear me calling you
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew”

4. You’ve Got A Friend – James Taylor

“You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running, to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there
You’ve got a friend”

5. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road – Elton John

“So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can’t plant me in your penthouse
I’m going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I’ve finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road”

6. Gypsy – Fleetwood Mac

“So I’m back to the velvet underground
Back to the floor that I love
To a room with some lace and paper flowers
Back to the gypsy that I was
To the gypsy that I was”

7. Wild World – Yusuf / Cat Stevens

“Oh baby baby it’s a wild world
It’s hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh baby baby it’s a wild world
I’ll always remember you like a child, girl”

8. Just The Way You Are – Billy Joel

“I wouldn’t leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times; I’ll take the bad times
I’ll take you just the way you are”

9. Can’t Smile Without You – Barry Manilow

“I can’t smile without you
I can’t laugh and I can’t sing
I’m finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you’re sad
I feel glad when you’re glad
If you only knew what I’m going through
I just can’t smile without you”

10. Handy Man – James Taylor

“Here is the main thing I want to say
I’m busy twenty four hours a day
I fix broken hearts, I know I really can”
